Increasing Awareness and Understanding
The site team of the Making Connections in Hartford
places special emphasis on communications. Our
communications goal is to increase community-wide awareness,
understanding and acceptance of the facts, issues, themes,
and values relevant to the Making Connections work. We also
hope to motivate people to support the Making Connections
work conducted by our partners and to become actively
engaged in it.
To try to accomplish our goals we support coverage in the
media that conveys information about the problems and
solutions affecting low-income families such as finding
family-sustaining work, saving for a better future, helping
children succeed in school, and connecting to support
services and positive social networks. Perhaps most
noteworthy of our work with the media is the partnership
we’ve developed with Connecticut Public Broadcasting (CPTV
and CPR).
Over the part few years, we have partnered with
the CPTV and CPR to provide the public with insightful
information on the topics of former prisoners re-entering
the community, the hurdles low-income families face in
trying to move up the economic ladder, and the importance of
early childhood education. You can view the
recent
documentary and town hall meeting on early childhood
education that CPTV produced with Making Connections'
support.
Besides communicating through the media, we also produce
an electronic newsletter issue each month called MCH Update.
It generally covers a single topic concerning a human
services program, practice or policy of interest to people
involved in the Making Connections work. MCH Update also
circulates news flashes on an as-needed basis. To obtain
back issues of MCH Update or of the periodic printed
newsletter of Making Connections,
